DocBridge View

DocBridge View:
Display Documents of Different Formats in a Single Viewer Window

Download PDF Version

DocBridge View is a fast, easy to use program to display electronic, stored or archived documents. It can be used to view single, multiple, or batched documents. One of its major benefits is the support for printing, storing, and archiving all mixed object formats (compound formats) as well as the commonly used raster formats. An additional important feature of DocBridge View is that every page loaded into the viewer is shown in the same window – even when the documents loaded are in different formats.

Overview

  • Extremely fast viewer
  • Comprehensive support for the most common print and archiving document formats
  • Consistent user view – one window for all documents and formats
  • Optimal support of resource references
  • High image presentation fidelity, including the displaying of typefaces in their original font
  • Comprehensive overview and annotation features
  • Deployable as an ActiveX control element in user applications
  • Highly configurable and controllable

DocBridge View is a universal multi-document viewer, which because of its many integration features and configurability can easily be used in a wide range of application scenarios in document and output management. Due to its support of many different mixed object formats DocBridge View is leading edge technology.

User Features

The user interface is made up of two main elements:

Viewer Window:
This is used to display all loaded documents, irrespective of their format, even documents in different formats at the same time. The user is not confronted with any formatting variations; each page is shown in the viewer window presented just as its true representation.

The viewer offers all the features required to make document viewing easy, including scrolling, rotating, and zooming together with optimized display options such as scale-to-gray and its own font-rastering. Viewer page processing speed is extraordinarily high.

Document Navigation Window:
This component provides a view of the loaded documents in various ways:

  • Document tree: Batched documents, documents, and pages are shown in a hierarchically structure in Windows Explorer-style layout.
  • Miniature view: All the pages of the loaded documents are shown in sequence as resizeable thumbprints.
  • Index view: The index structure is shown for AFP document batches, in which the individual documents are indexed by using TLE tags.
  • Page group view: Shows AFP documents grouped as page groups.

Additional features include:

  • Selection of individual pages or page sections for printing and sending by e-mail
  • Search for text in the loaded documents, assuming the document includes text, and marking of the instances found
  • Creation and editing of annotations, e.g. highlighting, masking areas, lines, text boxes, notes, and stamps

Resource Management

Much work lies in the preparation of resources. DocBridge View is able to resolve internal and external resources, for mixed object formats like AFP, including overlays, page segments, medium maps, and form definitions or fonts. With font presentation, DocBridge View has the ability to switch between presentation by similar type system fonts or fonts rastered by DocBridge View itself.

When a document is usually output on a printed form which is not provided in the datastream, this external form made available in the appropriate format can be merged by DocBridge View for display or printing, to improve readability and image presentation fidelity. This feature can also be used for printing pages with a background “Copy” or “Reprint”.

Configurability

DocBridge View can be almost entirely configured remotely:

  • It can be called with a wide variety of control parameters. This gives it the ability to display document lists prepared with wildcards or to adapt the user interface as necessary.
  • With its ability to handle DDE DocBridge View can be used as an additional module in another application such as an archiving system: There is an extensive list of function calls which can be used to adapt DocBridge View to the requirements of the application.

System Requirements

DocBridge View runs under Windows NT, 2000, and XP.

The program requires approx. 8 MB hard disk.

DocBridge View can be installed on a stand-alone PC or from a preconfigured server installation.

The program is available in the following languages: German, English, Spanish, French, Italian and Portuguese.

Formats

Mixed Object formats:

  • AFP (Advanced Function Printing) and AFP mixed-mode from IBM
  • MO:DCA (Mixed Object: Document Content Architecture) from IBM
  • PCL (Printer Control Language) from HP
  • PDF (Portable Document Format) from Adobe
  • LCDS (incl. DJDE) from Xerox
  • Metacode (incl. DJDE) from Xerox
  • SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) from the W3C
  • GOF (Generic Output Format) incl. OTF and ALF from SAP

The display options for documents of different formats can be optimized via the configuration profile and thereby adapted to meet the needs of the most demanding applications.
